1) Where and what did you study and when did you graduate?
I studied BSc Psychology at Cardiff University and graduated in 2012.
I went on to do a PGC in Autism & Aspergers and now studying for my MA in Autism
2) Where do you live now?
After University I moved to London and lived there for 3 years, but around 6 months ago I moved back to home to Jersey.
3) Tell us about your job...
I have lots of things going on. I have my own company called Health Revolution. Within this company I am to revolutionise the way health and wellness is supported by working within 4 pillars of health; nutrition, fitness, mind-body and support. I provide support to individuals who want to understand how best to fuel their mind and body in order to achieve their goals. I am also a researcher on the Research Autism Cygnet Mentoring Project, which is a pilot study investigating the effectiveness of a mentoring program on the wellbeing of individuals on the autism spectrum. I am also a certified Holistic Health and Wellness Coach, Professional Athlete and Fitness Model, all of which I feel feed in so well to the mission of my company
4) What did you want to be when you were younger?
When I was really young I always said to my family I wanted to be a barmaid. That’s because I grew up in pubs and looking at people pouring pints looked like a real art to me… How things have changed.
5) What did you do immediately after leaving university?
Immediately after leaving university I applied for jobs in London. I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew I didn’t want to go back to Jersey. In looking for a job I said to myself ‘what would you be happy doing… what are your values’. For me this was to help others and to make a difference. I ended up applying to work within an autistic unit of a mainstream school. I must have had one lecture on autism, I really didn’t know much about it, but when I read the job description it ticked all the values so I was really excited about it.
I didn’t really think much about it. Going through university I really didn’t know what I would go into. Everyone on my course would say they wanted to be a Clinical Psychologist and I just went along with it without really know exactly what a Clinical psychologist did. I have always had this burning desire to make a difference so I decided that I would just go with the flow and see what would happen. I knew that I was someone that wouldn’t be happy doing a job I didn’t enjoy because I really am not motivated by money at all. Plus I was put off going in the finance industry when I worked there during the summer before university to save lots of money!
7) If you could go back, what would you say to yourself on graduation day?
Be true to yourself and allow your passions to guide you!
8) Would you have done anything different?
I suffered from a lot of stress and anxiety at university. I am such a high achiever I really used to punish myself when it came to trying to do the best I could in terms of grades. Looking back I didn’t need to punish myself as much as I did, I would have still got the same grades. I also would have gone to get some support in terms of how to manage my stress and anxiety.
9) What inspires you?
I’m inspired to make a difference. I’m inspired about being able to help people. I am inspired to be able to achieve my best. Im also inspired by my mum who is so hard working, supportive and loving, she is my rock.
10) What would you like to say to our graduates looking for inspiration?
Don’t panic in terms of decided what you want to do with your life. Every experience will build you up as a person and shape your passions. We all have values as a person and if you align your experiences with your values then you wont look at work in the same way.
11) Your three favourite words
Ahhh this is a really hard question.. I’m not sure in terms of single words.
In line with my business it would be: educate, revolutionise, make a difference!
In terms of my own words: Fab, Ciao, b-e-a-utiful!
